Boy Scouts of America
Dear Scouts and Parents,
Welcome to Pack 405. We’re so glad you’ve chosen to enroll or re-enroll in our Pack! We’ve planned an exciting year with activities for the children that provide opportunities for education, physical fitness and fun.
We hope that your child will have a great time, making new friends, learning, advancing and playing. Many of our planned activities can be enjoyed by every member of a Cub Scout’s family, and through your participation in the program, we hope to get to know each of you better.
These pages are intended to provide a basic overview of our program. If you have questions or concerns about scouting, or would like more specific information about our program, please contact one of us or speak to your child’s Den Leader.
Welcome!

The Pack 405 Program
Den Meetings - Meetings are held Thursday evenings from 6:00 -7:00 P.M. during the school year. The meetings are held at the First Parish Church. Den meetings are not held during school holiday periods and are cancelled whenever Derry Schools are cancelled due to weather.
Pack Meetings - Dens and their Families come together monthly on the third Thursday from 6:00-7:00 P.M. (unless noted otherwise on the pack calendar). Pack Meetings provide an opportunity to recognize the advancement and achievements of the Scouts, their parents, and their leaders. The pack meeting also gives the Scouts a chance to demonstrate the skills they have learned and show off projects that they have completed in their dens. We do request that each Scout have at least one adult in attendance for these meetings.
Registration - The registration fee pays for registration with the Boy Scouts of America, unit insurance, Pinewood Derby, and an annual subscription to Boys Life Magazine (this will arrive in Jan .for new subscriptions). If a child joins Scouts after September, this fee is pro-rated. Registration Fees and medical forms should be returned as soon as possible, but must be returned by September 26th. Scouts that have not met this requirement will not be able to participate in future meetings or events until all documents and payments are in.

Scouts that have not met this requirement will not be able to participate in future meetings or events until all documents and payments are in.
- Medical Forms - Scouts as well as leaders are required to fill out a Scouting medical form annually. Part A and B are due with registration. Part C, which is completed and signed by a medical professional is required for any child, leader and/or parent attending camp. These forms can be found on our downloads page.
- Financial Aid - No child should be denied the Scouting experience for financial reasons. If your family’s situation is such that you require assistance with the registration fee or with any financial aspect of Scouting, please see the Committee Chairperson and your request will be handled in confidence.
Fundraising Obligations:
- Throughout the year, the Scouts raise money for activities through fundraising activities. Details will be provided at den or pack meetings
Parent Responsibilities
Parents/Guardians are expected to help their child in the following ways:
- * See that the child has the proper uniform and rank book
- * Assist your child by attending weekly den meetings and monthly pack meetings
- * Work with your child to complete the achievements for your child's rank
- * Support your child's Den as a resource person
- * Volunteer- We need volunteers to run our program... please just ask how you can help!
Inappropriate Behavior- The goal of Pack 405 is to have a safe, fun program for the scouts and their families. Adult leaders have the right to intervene in any situation that they deem unsafe. If a Scout is unwilling to abide by the requirements of the adult leaders in charge, the Scout may be sent home or a parent may be required to stay for meetings.
Buddy System- The buddy system is in effect at all times. It is NOT just for outings. If a Scout needs to leave the meeting space-for whatever reason (including the bathroom)- the Scout must be accompanied by a parent or another Scout.
Pack Sign-in/Sign-out Policy- For the safety of your children, Pack 405 has a sign-in and sign-out policy. You will need to sign your child in and sign them out at every Den meeting. This is to be done in each individual Den. This policy does not include Pack meetings as each scout should be accompanied by at least one parent/guardian.
Lion and Tiger Scouts require an Akela- a parent (or another adult)—to remain throughout the den meeting and work together with his/her scout to accomplish their activities. For Wolf rank and older, a parent is encouraged to attend, participate, and assist throughout the meetings, but is not required.
Uniforms- All Cubs and leaders need to be in uniform for all Scouting activities. Class A- must be worn for all Pack Rallies and Outings. Class A or B - must be worn at all Den Meetings. As we wear the uniform in scouts, we stand together and encourage each other to live by the Scouting principles. Scouts and adults alike should take pride in belonging to this program and wear the uniform correctly.
“Class A” Uniforms – the official Cub Scout uniform
- * long or short-sleeved blue uniform shirt (we encourage buying big for younger scouts as the shirt is worn through all 5.5 Cub Scout years)
- * appropriate patches (see Insignia Placement in the Scout’s handbook)
- * neckerchief (gold for Lions, orange for Tigers, red for Wolves, light blue for Bears, plaid for Webelos) & slide
- * blue belt with Cub Scout buckle
- * Webelos may opt to wear the tan uniform shirt (The choice of which uniform a Webelos Scout will wear is that of the Scout and family.)
“Class B” Uniforms – the ‘casual’ cub scout uniform
- * Pack 405 t-shirt (can be ordered from the Pack)
- * Cub Scout Summer Camp t-shirt
- * Cub Scout t-shirt purchased from scout store.
Pack 405 Leadership
The Pack’s leaders are volunteers who are dedicated to ensuring that ALL the children have an enjoyable time in Scouting. Each leader has at the very least, Youth Protection and Leaders Essentials training which is offered through the Boy Scouts of America and Daniel Webster Council.
